Overview

Automatic Backups

If you use iCloud synchronization, your notes are backup up automatically in iCloud and will be downloaded on the first launch of a new device.

Create Backups

SnipNotes will periodically create an archive file with all your notes and save it to your iCloud Drive. This is a safety feature in case notes get lost or are accidentally deleted.

By default, SnipNotes creates a weekly backup of your notes and stores it at the following path: iCloud Drive/SnipNotes/Export.

Your images are not included in the archive to save space. You can include images, change the export interval or turn off the automatic export in settings:

iOS

  1. Open the list of categories
  2. Tap the cogwheel icon to reveal the settings menu
  3. Tap on the row “Export & Import”

macOS

  1. Click the cogwheel icon in the upper-left corner
  2. Click on the "Export & Import" tab

Restore Backups

Tap or click the “Import Archive File” button at the bottom of the settings dialog to restore your notes from a backup file. Navigate to the folder iCloud Drive/SnipNotes/Export and select the most recent archive file. SnipNotes will create a new category and place your notes there.

If your archive contains more than one category, SnipNotes will let you choose which categories you want to import. This is a good option if you are missing just a few notes or want to restore an older version of a particular note.

Exporting and importing notes will never change or override any existing notes in your app.
